Now on eBay is a '48 Deluxe Sedan. Ad says: " We have a 1948 Packard straight 8 deluxe, but the straight 8 engine & gearbox has long gone (we didn`t get it with the car when my dad bought it)
This was my dads car, he bought it sooo long ago i can`t even remember, maybe 1980-ish, it didn`t have an engine or a gearbox but dad had a Leyland P76 4.4litre alloy v8 with a cast-iron 4-speed celica/corona gearbox attached, so we slipped that lot into the engine bay.
But that`s about as far as it got & so it has sat here ever since
dad lost the plot with dementure over the last few years & has recently died & it`s my job to clear everything out to sell the property.
We were told by one of our mechanics that the rear axle has a problem, pretty sure he said it had a broken axle but i don`t really know for sure to be honest.
the tyres are flat, it does have rust as the pictures tell the story, i`m sure it`s worth doing-up as we were also told at the time that my dad bought it that this was one of only 3 in Australia... so it`s a pretty rare beast, even in the states there are not that many around (yes i`ve searched :-) )
The engine was a good runner when we fitted it, but it`s now sat for about 30-odd years so i`d expect you`d want to give it a freshen-up if you were to use it.
obviously i`m not posting or freighting this thing anywhere,,, if you buy it then it`s up to you to get it out of there,,, we`ve cleared the bush around the front of the shed so it can be easy picked up by a tilt tray truck or a decent (Lage) trailer , but you`d want to have a motha of an electric winch to get it onto your trailer,,, it`s over 20f long & weighs a ton & a half :-)
This would make an Awesome hot-rod or rat-rod or spend some time & money & bring it back to original if you can find an engine/gearbox.
I was seriously thinking of keeping it myself but i have way way way too much on my plate & no-where to store it money isn`t a problem, just time & room & energy are all lacking.
it will be sad to see it go as dad told many storys about his dad owning one of these back when he was getting his licence & he loved it so much he bought one :-)
anyways, reserve is very respectable & we will want cash on Pick-up within a couple of weeks of winning bid time.
what you see in the pics is what you get, there may be some parts inside it but that`l be it.
ring me if you want to come & have a look Mobile 0407 135 656 (07)33 99 99 99 work hours we are in Murarrie Brisbane & the car is at Chandler/Burbank Brisbane
We would like the new owner to stay in touch if possible as it would be pretty cool to show dad`s sister what`s happened to the old girl. Cheers & happy bidding Matt" Click on photo to enlarge

G'day Sam,
The link doesn't appear to work to take one to a Packard 110 Convertible Coupe, just takes you to Carsales.
Did a search on Carsales for Packard but it doesn't seem to be there?

1948 22nd Series Eight Touring Sedan on eBay. Link to listing - www.ebay.com.au/itm/1948-Packard-Straight-8-Touring-Sedan-RARE-Factory-RHD-Aust-Delivered-/322225171162?hash=item4b061deada:g:F0AAAOSw-itXrSpZDescription from eBay listing: Factory RHD straight eight this car was delivered to a serving US Army officer stationed in Woomera, South Australia in the late 1940s. Maintained by the army, illicitly we suspect, as it still sports the original olive drab on some engine bay components. This is not intended to be an ‘Army Car’ rather as tribute to what the original owner might have done had he kept the car after his service in the Army was complete. Previously last registered in 1972, it’s now been back on the road just a couple of years and gets out and about most weeks. Starts and runs every time. Very original and repaired with all genuine Packard parts. We have rebuilt pretty much everything. Brakes have been fully rebuilt, re-cored radiator is like new. Fully rebuilt carburetor. New high performance 6V battery. It’s a very long list. The car was ordered without indicators (probably considered surplus for getting around the base and between remote operational fields) so we have sourced original Packard indicators as were an option on this model. Straight Eight engine 288 CI is original to the car. It runs perfectly and I was told the previous owner rebuilt it (or had it rebuilt). Interior carpets are new as is front seat including foam and upholstery. Door cards and rear seat are still original duck down under later covers. Car also has an original Packard visor and several bits of literature and we also have both front and back original enamel South Australia licence plates that were on the car when delivered new.
